Marvelous Matrices
In this module, students will explore some of the ways that matrices are used to store and analyze information.
Definitions and Examples.
Matrix - A rectangular arrangement of rows and columns used to organize information. A matrix has i rows and j columns has dimensions i x j. Each item in a matrix is an element. Example.
Matrix addition - Addition that can be performed on two matrices with the same dimensions by adding the corresponding elements of each matrix.
Matrix subtraction - Subtraction that can be performed on two matrices with the same dimensions by subtracting the corresponding elements of each matrix.
Examples of addition and subtraction.
Scalar multiplication - Multiplication of each element of a matrix by a constant, or scalar. Example.
